Director, Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry Division at Northwell Health’s Zucker Hillside Hospital

The Department of Psychiatry at the Zucker Hillside Hospital (ZHH) is seeking a dynamic, academically oriented Director for its Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry Division.

This critical position oversees a staff of nearly 30 psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, approximately 100 other multidisciplinary behavioral health clinicians (including masters and doctoral level psychotherapists), and administrative/clerical personnel.  In addition, the Division serves as a critical training platform for R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 house officers (13/year) in our highly regarded ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Training Program; and for selected ambulatory psychiatry experiences for medical students at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and for psychology, NP, and social work trainees.

Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry at ZHH subsumes many diverse and exciting programs, including the general psychiatry adult outpatient clinic with specialized tracks in long-acting injectable anti-psychotics and clozapine; several discrete sub-specialty ‘centers’ of excellence focused on bipolar disorder, OCD, college students, perinatal patients and first-episode psychosis; an intensive-like outpatient program called PACE (Progressive Alternative Clinic Experience); and a crisis center.  Collectively, these programs serve 7000+ patients through over 120,000 annual visits.

The successful candidate will partner with departmental leadership to develop and implement strategies to improve access and quality at a time of significant expansion for ambulatory behavioral health at ZHH and, more broadly, Northwell. The Director will lead significant growth of our current programs and creation of new ones. The Director will also play a critical role in the design and delivery of clinical training for our psychiatry residents and NPs and psychology trainees. The candidate will be a key participant in the extensive care continuum at ZHH, regularly interfacing with leadership colleagues at the LIJ psychiatry emergency and consultation-liaison divisions; the ZHH inpatient, geriatric psychiatry, child/adolescent psychiatry and ECT divisions; the ZHH Quality Management Department; and relevant LIJ medical-surgical departments.  With a seat on the department’s Psychiatric Executive Committee, the Director, Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry Division is a prominent voice influencing decisions about strategic priorities, facilitating access, innovative care models, budgetary allocations, and personnel recruitment/retention.

The Research Division at ZHH and the Institute of Behavioral Sciences at Northwell’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research has a national and international reputation based on seminal contributions in psychopharmacology, genetics, neuroimaging, and psychiatric service delivery.  The Adult Ambulatory Psychiatry Division interacts with funded clinical research programs through subject recruitment and assessment/treatment initiatives that enable opportunities for the Director to participate as a co-investigator on existing projects and/or lead other new studies.

Zucker Hillside Hospital is a 230-bed psychiatric facility on the campus of Long Island Jewish Medical Center. It operates ten (10) inpatient units (including a young adult/first episode/college unit) and serves over 6500 collective ambulatory registrants in its adult, geriatric, and child/adolescent and on- and off-campus substance use disorder programs.
