The role you’ll contribute:
The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the interdisciplinary health care team to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives.Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocol/guidelines; managing resources in a cost effective manner; participating in performance improvement efforts; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

·Patient Care:
-Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to identify patients with nutritional risk and provides expert nutrition assessment.
-Evaluates and monitors nutritional status of hospitalized patients ranging from newborn to geriatric populations as well as cultural, religious, and ethnic concerns, using established standards of care
-Develops and implements an individualized plan for nutrition intervention in accordance with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives, nutrition prescription, and self-management training.
-Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyzes/interprets data based on evidence-based standards
-Utilizes hospital policies and procedures to provide timely and appropriate nutrition intervention and therapy within the scope of practice defined by the hospital
-Develops of a therapeutic plan of specialized nutrition support, including enteral and/or parenteral nutrition
-Provide recommendations for an individualized plan for nutrition intervention.
-Documents in the patient’s legal medical record
-Provides appropriate documentation that summarizes the nutrition care plan in the patient’s medical record, including nutrition assessment, diagnosis plan, implementation, and progress toward goals
·Nutrition Education:
-Provides professional nutrition counseling that is age and culture specific
-Identifies educational needs and provides current, hospital approved, nutrition education that is sensitive to the patient’s learning need, condition, readiness to learn, literacy, hearing language and age
-Assesses educational needs and provides nutrition counseling for individuals and groups.
-Serves as the nutrition expert, educator and liaison to medical staff and allied health personnel
·Business/Supervisory Functions:
-Supports the department’s goals and objectives
-Attends department meetings and remains up to date with department activities, communications and changes
-Assist in budget request and planning as needed
-Adheres to budget restraints, managing resources (time, materials, and staff) in a cost-effective manner.
-Controls costs and minimizes waste
-Works cooperatively with foodservice staff to assure conformance to diet prescriptions
·Performance Improvement:
-Participates in the hospital’s performance improvement processes
-Gathers, collects and reports data as requested including daily clinical activities
-Responds to action plans that develop as a result of a performance improvement initiative
-Maintains productivity standards and practices effective time management and prioritizing of tasks.
-Supports and promotes the organization’s infection control, safety, risk management, and customer/guest relation programs.
·Professional Development:
-Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
-Develops and implements an individualized plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs.
-Participates in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, task forces, and projects.
-Performs other related duties as assigned.
-Follows all hospital policies and procedures
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
REQUIRED:
·Completion of a didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
·Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition, or related area required.
·One year experience in acute care setting preferred.
·Experience using Cerner electronic medical record
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
·Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
·Florida Department of Health dietitian/nutritionist license
