General Summary

Under limited supervision, the Mental Health Clinical Lead is responsible for the coordination and supervision of behavioral health services provided by mental health counselors and/or psychologists in the service lines of Psychiatry- Emergency Department for up to 40% of scheduled hours. He/ she will provide direct service to patients for up to 60% of scheduled hours. The Mental Health Clinical Lead collaborates with the Director of Behavioral Health Services to establish guidelines to promote the growth and development of the assigned Department of Psychiatry Emergency Department service line. The Mental Health Clinical Lead will function as a multidisciplinary team member both clinically and administratively within the department and with other health care providers within the hospital and in the community. They will have direct oversight of Mental Health Clinicians, Discharge Coordinators, and Peer Recovery Coaches who work in the Emergency Department under the Department of Psychiatry. . Patients served including all age groups (Child through Adult-Geriatric).

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Ensures efficiency and consistency of unit operations through implementation and monitoring of departmental policies and standard operating procedures.
2. Supports administrative perspective when interpreting policy decisions to staff
3. Serves on unit or service-based management teams, representing both staff and managerial interests in this capacity.
4. Participates in or oversees staffing and scheduling of designated personnel.
5. Ensures that staffing requirements are met, preemptively addressing instances of under and over staffing.
6. Monitors productivity; identifies opportunities for improvement to Director of Behavioral Health Services to include ways to reduce agency, OT costs, etc.
7. Recommends personnel for hiring; initiates discipline and termination following collaboration with and approval of Director of Behavioral Health Services.
8. Recommends changes and improvements to operations, and prepares justification of same.
9. Participates in review and/or revision of unit standards to include policies, procedures, guidelines and standard operating procedures.
