Mental Health America (MHA) is in search of a Digital and Social Media Director. The Digital and Social Media Director will be responsible for the direction, maintenance, and impact of Mental Health America’s (MHA) social media presence across all platforms, focusing on high-impact national awareness campaigns, organization fundraising objectives, and partner engagements. This includes directing cross-platform social media strategies and overseeing MHA’s social media calendar, organic social media community engagement, and paid social media advertising. It also includes producing content and creative assets, mainly graphics and short-form video content, for distribution across MHA’s social media accounts.
This position is eligible for remote work. There is some travel for meetings and affiliate visits (up to 10% time). Employees must be eligible to work in the U.S.

Social media strategy. Reach, engage, and expand Mental Health America’s social media audiences on current MHA platforms and generate creative ideas for expanding to new channels. Maintain and strengthen Mental Health America’s large social media presence and consistently increase MHA’s following.
Planning, scheduling, and cadence. Create and keep updated a social media schedule and incorporate content surrounding annual MHA signature awareness events, funder projects, and marketing campaigns while ensuring all pieces adhere to MHA’s brand voice. Ensure social media content is posted consistently across all platforms and scheduled at optimal times to maximize reach and engagement.
Creative assets. Produce graphics and short-form video content using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite applications.Use design skills to generate visually appealing content consistent with the organization’s voice, branding, and messaging.
Reporting, analytics, and audience engagement. Consistentlyassess the effectiveness of social media postings and adjust the overall content strategy according to relevant analytics and insights.Engage in “social listening” and respond to comments and direct messages with appropriate information. In addition, monitor popular posts and trending themes from other organizations in the mental health nonprofit space in order to inform strategy.
Paid advertising and influencer recruitment. Use the paid advertising capabilities of Facebook, Instagram, and other social platforms to generate creative advertisements and reach a broader audience, advancing key organizational objectives. For certain awareness campaigns, recruit, activate, and direct mental health social media influencers to help amplify campaign messaging.
Cross-departmental coordination. Partner closely with the Public Education team to promote high-impact national awareness campaigns, the Research and Innovation team to promote new MHA data analysis projects, the workplace and youth teams to promote MHA’s programmatic offerings, and the Marketing & Development team to support fundraising objectives, partner engagements, and the annual conference.
Advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Work with the Director of Mental Health Equity to identify and engage diverse voices on social media, produce content showcasing diverse perspectives, and diversify the organization’s social media audience. Organize and execute Facebook and Instagram Live events focused on equity.
Other duties. Provide social media advice and technical assistance to local MHA affiliates across the country in a timely manner.
