The Department of Psychiatry at Seattle Children’s is seeking a full-time (1.0 FTE) Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) with at least 1 year of experience working in child and adolescent psychiatry to join our multidisciplinary team of providers. The PMHNP or PA-C will provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for the clinical management of pediatric patients presenting to the hospital due to an acute mental or behavioral health crisis. The PMHNP or PAC-C will primarily be responsible for the care and management of patients admitted to the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU), including obtaining patient histories, performing mental status exams as well as physical exams as appropriate, ordering and interpreting labs or other diagnostic tests, prescribing medication, developing and modifying treatment plans, and evaluating patients progress and readiness for discharge. As applicable, the PMHNP or PA-C will collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, psychologists, mental health therapists, case managers, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high-quality care. Job responsibilities may also include evaluation and management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department with mental and behavioral health concerns, consulting with medical teams of patients hospitalized in other medical units and supporting patient care in partial hospitalization programs and/or intensive outpatient programs. The PMHNP or PA-C will contribute to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects and may be offered opportunities to participate in education and research efforts for patients, families, and the health care team.
- For NPs: Master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program
- For NPs in the critical care role: Master’s degree in nursing with a concentration in acute care
- For NPs in the psychiatric inpatient role: Master’s degree as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
- For PAs: Graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program
- Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington
- Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner
- RNFA certification
- Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington
- Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
For All Providers:
- Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.
-Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.
- Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children’s Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment.
- Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children’s as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies.
